Established In 1925
The Dr. Plumb pipe brand was created and launched in 1925 by Leslie Watts Plumb and J.B.Rubinovich. Originally it was sold as a “cool smoking” pipe, owing to a special aluminium tube that was housed between the shank and stem. In recent years this has been replaced in favour of a 9mm filter in modern times.
Situated in the Saint Claude hills of France, Leslie Plumb had been in charge of the Verguet Freres/ Marechal Ruchon factory for some time, staying on site with his family. His intricate knowledge of pipe systems and the trade as a whole had gained him some notoriety and was the reason his name was chosen for the brand. This choice worked and helped propel the business forward. To this day Dr.Plumb is a well known name in pipe smoking circles.
Since the outset Dr. Plumb pipes have been marketed as quality affordable pipes, and their price has changed very little when adjusted for inflation. In the present day they are not made in their ancestral homeland, rather they are manufactured in Britain. The same attention to detail and quality remains, despite the brand’s relocation.
Club Range (9mm Filter)
The Dr. Plumb Club range focuses on traditional shapes. Made from real briar, these pipes come with a smooth finish and are fitted for a 9mm filter. Each pipe is a good weight, feeling sturdy and secure in hand. The stems are made from vulcanite and bear the iconic Dr. Plumb logo.
Dinky Nine (9mm Filter)
The Dinky Nine range by Dr. Plumb offers a portable option for the on-the-go smoker. This is a bent pocket pipe that is fitted for a 9mm filter, something that is not frequently seen on the market. As the pipe is smaller than those in the Club range, it is lighter and more preferable for those seeking a hands free smoke. As with all Dr. Plumb pipes, the Dinky Nine is made with genuine briar.
Churchwarden
Now to the other extreme, the Churchwarden range. These pipes are much more lengthy than your average pipe coming in at 26.5cm long and as such providing an exceptionally smooth and cool smoke. Additionally, the smoke is kept out of the user’s face thanks to its bent nature and extended stem. These pipes are perfect for indoor and outdoor use.
