Introduction

Founded in 1958 by master pipemaker George Walker, Northern Briar has been run for many years by his grandson Ian Walker. Since its inception the company’s products have been popular with avid pipe collectors around the world.

Sought after for their top quality craftsmanship and unique designs, Ian Walker has single handedly kept the brand the talk of pipe smoking circles at home and abroad.

Known for fashioning his pipes at home on his barge, each pipe has been crafted with love and care that could only be attained through the decades of dedication to the craft. It is fair to say it runs in the family.

G5 Banded Sea Urchin Pipe

First up is the most eye catching and awe inspiring of the new Northern Briar pipes we have in store. Dubbed the G5 Banded Sea Urchin Pipe, it takes its inspiration from the underwater Echinoidea. 

A portly bowl that is finished in a rustic dark stain is adorned with small smooth rounds reminiscent of suction pads. The chamber itself is modest for the size of the bowl it is within.

As it progresses to the stem it becomes smooth, displaying the beautiful grain. A jade green stem is joined by a sterling silver band to create a seamless and flawless aesthetic.

Bruyere Premier G4 Canadian Pipe

The next pipe is in the styling of a Canadian pipe, that is to say a bowl and long shank that is oval in shape and connected to a small stem.

To procure the briar to make these pipes one has to be exceptionally lucky, that is because longer pieces of unblemished Briar are extremely hard to come by. This makes Canadian pipes prized pieces for many collectors, and this Northern Briar is no different.

A light natural finish accentuates the grain of the Briar and is cleverly contrasted against a marble green stem.

Bruyere Premier G4 Square Shank Plateau Pipe

A charming and distinctive pipe, the G4 Square Shank Plateau Pipe is a bent pipe that is part smooth and part rustic, the latter only being at the top of the bowl around the access to the chamber.

What this does is allow the pipe to appear unaffected by the flame that is put to it, even after plentiful use.

The next thing to note is the square shank, this connects effortlessly to a box shaped stem that is colour matched perfectly. A smooth finish accentuates the vertical travelling flame grain on the bowl, truly a magnificent sight!

Rox Cut G3 Bamboo Billiard Pipe

One of the more popular designs with customers at the shop, the Rox Cut G3 Bamboo Billiard Pipe is a nod to older designs that would have been bridged with materials such as bone.

Split into thirds, the pipe has a dark rusticated bowl, almost ebony in shade that is joined to a bone-coloured bamboo bridge that is shaped and decorated. This then adjoins a black and brown coloured stem.
