Introduction
In our previous Ardor blog we briefly outlined the establishment of the Ardor family business. Angelo Rovera & Dorelio Rovera share a unique vision and determination to produce pipes displaying creative flair and distinctive craftsmanship.
“We are passionate about our pipes,” says Dorelio. “Making pipes is scientific, yes. Precise engineering is required. But just as important is the emotion.”
This statement conveys the ethos and drive of the brothers who do not fear the long shadow of their father’s distinguished reputation. Instead they embrace this legacy and strive to live up to his ideals, keeping the family name relevant in the pipe making world.
Urano Fantasy Bent Pipe
The name Urano translates to Uranus in English. Named after the seventh planet from the sun as well as the Greek primordial god who fathered the mythical Titans. This is quite some name to live up to, but Ardor pulls it off.
A sizable pipe with a bent stem and a horn-like Dublin bowl, the Urano Fantasy draws attention to itself with its alluring sandblast finish that can only be described as “otherworldly”.
The top of the bowl is smooth, contrasted against the rest of the exterior and catches the light in a way that allows you to see the fantastic grain spiralling outward from the bowl.
Owing to the shape of the distinctive stem, the Urano Fantasy is not 9mm filter compatible. The stem itself is a cool dark coffee colour acrylic that is matched with a Sterling Silver band that joins it to the shank via a black acrylic ring.
The bowl width and depth is larger than most pipes and allows for a generous bowlful. Thanks to the sandblasted exterior the Urano Fantasy can be smoked for longer periods than most pipes without becoming unbearably hot to the touch.
As can be expected with a Freehand pipe such as this, each Urano Fantasy will have slight differences, this owes to the briar that has been obtained and the craftsman responsible for crafting the pipes own unique style.
