Introduction
Rizla is one of the most well-known rolling papers in the world. Established in France in 1886, the brand is synonymous with tobacco accessories.
One of the first companies to produce Menthol rolling paper, as far back as 1906. They were also the first to manufacture the Rizla blue, lighter rolling paper in 1910 which is still to this day a very popular choice amongst smokers. They also initiated some of the first rolling machines available on the market.
History
In 1942 the owners of Rizla managed to acquire the patent for ‘applying gum’ to the rolling paper and this put them at the forefront of the rolling paper industry.
Later in 77’ Rizla released the first of their own king-size rolling papers.
The company was then sold to Imperial Tobacco in 1997 and continues to grow even stronger due to clever marketing and having a recognizable brand logo.
Although Imperial Tobacco eventually closed Rizla’s historic factory at Mazères-sur-Salat near Saint-Gaudens (south of France). They released one of the most popular lines to date in 2003 which was the Rizla silver, ultra-thin king-size rolling paper.
In 2005 the Treforest factory at Pontypridd near Cardiff in South Wales was closed and now all Rizla products are manufactured in Wilrijk, Belgium.
