75 Years
This weekend marks the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a country wide celebratory event marking 75 years since her ascension to the throne. Festivities will commence on Thursday 2nd and conclude on Sunday 5th, with many people enjoying a long weekend thanks to the bank holiday.
As one would expect the Jubilee will see many heading to street parties, barbecues, public parks, pubs, friends houses and such to indulge in food and drink. To help you make the most of this occasion we have compiled a small selection of goods that we think will make the weekend extra memorable.
We hope you have a great weekend!
Peterson – Special Cut Pipe Tobacco (50g Tin)
Irish outfit Peterson are known globally for their terrific tobaccos and pipes. Special Cut, as the name implies, is a special mixture with a decadent aroma.
A unique mixture of Virginia (red, golden & dark) are mixed with burley and black cavendish resulting in a smooth, evenly burning base blend. This is then topped with an assortment of treats; boozy rum, sweet coconut and delicate notes of macadamia nuts.
Fans of aromatic tobaccos or the Peterson brand are sure to find this delightful blend worthy of a royal reception.
Bell’s – Three Nuns Pipe Tobacco (40g Packet)
For those inclined to opt for a more straight shooting tobacco we have a British classic, Three Nuns. Formerly made by Bell’s but now manufactured by MacBaren, the recipe has been unchanged in the transition of manufacturers.
First released in the 1800s, Three Nuns has managed to remain one of the most popular tobaccos in the UK since its inception. With a reign as long as this you can guarantee that Three Nuns is something special.
This is an unflavoured mixture that consists of Brazilian light, Burley, Kentucky and Virginia. Medium strength, the perfectly balanced tobaccos harmonise and produce a natural sweet taste that is distinct in character.
Erik Nording – Hold Em’ Series Pipes
Erik Nording manufactures some of the finest, high quality freehand briar pipes. It is fair to say that each one of these pipes is as much an artwork as a practical pipe. Many would refer to him as “the king’ of freehand” a title he has earned through honing his craft for decades whilst pouring his heart into his designs.
Why not step your pipe game up and mark this once in a lifetime occasion by purchasing a one-of-a-kind Erik Nording pipe.
My Father – Le Bijou 1922 Grand Robusto (Single Loose Cigar)
The Le Bijou 1922 by the brand My Father is a stunning Nicaraguan robusto that utilises a Nicaraguan binder & filler with a Habano Oscuro wrapper leaf. The result is a triumph!
My Father cigars are made by a famous father and son team consisting of Don Pepin and Jaime Garcia. Don Pepin, a third generation master blender, emigrated to Miami to set up his own cigar factory. For their cigars they exclusively use tobacco grown on their families farms. The shared vision of father and son has seen them go on to become a commercial and critical success.
The first thing you notice when holding a Le Bijou 1922 is the dark brown wrapper leaf with a few veins and an eye-catching oily sheen. When nosing the foot before lighting tones of soil, butter and a sweetness resembling molasses. The double band on the cigar aesthetically gives it an air of authority.
Tasting Notes
When first lighting the Le Bijou 1922 a range of flavours reminiscent of peppers and spice make way for meatier notes. These are present for the majority of the first third of the cigar along with subtler earth notes.
As you get into the second third of the cigar you start to notice the clean white ash. This is all thanks to the great care taken during the growth of the tobacco at My Father’s family farms and the nutrient rich soil it’s grown in. At this point the flavours open up to be more sweet and cloying before reverting to a palate of pepper and vegetal soil for the final third of the cigar.
In 2015 Cigar Aficionado Magazine voted the My Father Le Bijou 1922 Box Pressed the Cigar Of The Year.
