The History
This historic company was established in 1737 in the Sharrow region of England, United Kingdom. Initially, Joseph Wilson’s father Thomas had been a shearsmith and used the mill as a cutler wheel, used for the sharpening of blades. When Joseph took over the property he turned it into a snuff tobacco mill. The business would remain within the family and years later in 1833, the two brothers Joseph Jr. & Henry Wilson decided to part ways, splitting the family into two individual businesses. In 1897 the mill saw a transformation to using steam power, a process that revolutionized the way snuff could be made.
In 1982 Wilsons Of Sharrow obtained another historic company of significance, Fribourg & Treyer, keeping them from obscurity. Today, the company is responsible for manufacturing some of the most prevalent snuffs in the UK. Classics such as Singletons, Dr. Rumney’s, Best SP & SP 100 are kept in circulation thanks to this historic company.
These days the company offers a great variety of goods, including but not limited to snuffs, snuff accessories, pipe tobaccos, leather pouches, etc. So let’s have a look at some of the products that are certainly worth mentioning.

A blend of Ebony Black Cavendish for sweetness, The natural sweetness of these tobaccos gives them the qualities of an aromatic on the nose and tongue. Wonderfully rich, with creamy sweet caramel topping.
Pipe Accessories
Individual steel wire basket for pipes, already folded to sit in the pipe bowl comfortably.
Chalk Filter Pads are easy to use, just drop in your pipe bowl before packing. The chalk will absorb tar and moisture allowing the user to enjoy a much cooler smoke.
Snuffs
A fine ground snuff with an original recipe dating back decades. A unique concoction of Menthol, Eucalyptus, Camphor, Bergamot, Lavender, Rose and Aniseed. Venerated by long time snuff users and embraced warmly by new ones.
Dr. Rumney’s Blue Snuff is created using its classic recipe, a mix of different tobaccos blended with camphor, eucalyptus, menthol, and a hint of S.P.
