The Bruyere Regal series by Northern Briars is a selection of red stain pipes with a smooth finish allowing you to observe the spectacular grain. Made from top quality briar, Northern Briar are well renowned for creative designs and quality craftsmanship. This particular pipe is a Bent Army Banded shape with a Northern Briars silver band between the shank and the stem. A beautiful addition to any collection.

About the Maker:

Every Northern Briars pipe is individually handcrafted aboard a traditional 70-foot British narrowboat. These historic boats once carried coal, timber, and other goods through the waterways of the United Kingdom. Today, the vessel has been adapted to include a compact workshop where Ian both lives and works.

Each pipe Ian produces is shaped according to the natural characteristics of the briar—its grain, size, and form—ensuring that every piece has its own distinct personality. Ian represents the third generation of his family involved in pipe making and has been surrounded by the craft since childhood. As is common in family trades, he began with simple tasks such as polishing before gradually learning more advanced skills. Over time he was trained in silversmithing by his grandfather and learned stem making from his father. Before his father retired from pipe making, Ian mainly focused on repair work and producing stems.

Today, Northern Briars pipes are among the most widely recognised artisan pipes made in the United Kingdom, with many finding their way to collectors and smokers around the world.

Thanks to Ian’s experience and careful craftsmanship, Northern Briars pipes give enthusiasts the opportunity to own a piece of traditional English pipe making—created without the mass-production approach used by the remaining large factories. Every pipe is made using Mediterranean briar and fitted with vulcanite or acrylic stems produced from high-quality German rod stock.
