Festival Snuff 2019 Specifically made for The Pipe Shop to celebrate the 2019 Edinburgh Festival. Fine, dry, lightly toasted snuff, scented with a Sicilian lemon extract and Scottish peppermint. In the 16th century, snuff was believed to contain medicinal properties and Jean Nicot, the French Ambassador to Portugal, from whom the word nicotine derives, recommended it to Queen Catherine de Medici as a cure for her persistent migraines. Apothecaries later added menthol, eucalyptus, clove or camphor to create “medicated” snuffs.

A one man band operation, Sir Walter Scott’s Snuff is a passion project firstly. The company employs a higher level of scrutiny to the manufacturing of genuine vintage recipes than any other brand. As a result these snuffs that transport you back centuries, far more convenient than a Delorian. With an extensive selection of 18 different snuffs, Sir Walter Scott’s promises to keep any snuff enthusiast pleasantly occupied.

By the 18th century snuff tobacco use was widespread through all sections of society. Rich and poor, male and female, snuff was an everyday part of British culture. Many prominent figures were snuff fanatics such as George IV, Charles Darwin and Napoleon along with modern celebrities such as science fiction author Philip K. Dick, actor Sean Bean and comedian Stephen Fry.
