Specifically made for The Pipe Shop to celebrate the 2019 Edinburgh Festival. This is a fine dry, lightly toasted snuff, scented with a Sicilian lemon extract and Scottish grown peppermint. In the 16th century, snuff was believed to contain medicinal properties and Jean Nicot, the French Ambassador to Portugal, from whom the word nicotine derives, recommended it to Queen Catherine de Medici as a cure for her persistent migraines. Apothecaries later added menthol, eucalyptus, clove or camphor to create “medicated” snuffs. Today mentholated snuffs are simply appreciated for their flavour.
