Poschl is a multi-generational family business that started in Bavaria with one man, Alois Poschl.  This young man was mobile snuff and haberdashery merchant, travelling by bike to sell his wares on the road. In 1902 he collates his modest financial resources to start his own snuff business. Due to technical limitations the new company “Brasiltabakfabrik A. Pöschl & Cie” would start by manufacturing Schmalzer snuff. Over the years the companies hard work paid off and allowed them to source new machinery that would allow them to extend the range.

In 1923, despite the troubled economy Alois Poschl saw a gap in the market and saw to it that the company started selling a tobacco-free snuff. On top of this he released a fruit flavoured Scmalzer that was well received also. The Second World War would take a massive toll on the company and at the wars end it was near impossible for the Poschl’s to acquire the necessary items to resume steady production. In the following years new taxes would see a drastic decrease in the consumption of snuff and the company had to move into smoking tobaccos. Thankfully today snuff is on the rise again and Poschl still produce many wonderful snuffs today.
