SP No1 Snuff (20g Tin) by J&H Wilson
SP No1 is a finely ground, slightly moist snuff. This is a British classic and possibly the most popular ‘everyday’ snuff in the country. A hint of sweet and subtle Bergamot makes this snuff pleasant and rewarding. A great choice for those new to snuff as well as those well versed in snuffing.
A truly historic company, being founded in 1737 in the Sharrow region of England, United Kingdom. Originally Joseph Wilson’s father Thomas had been a shearsmith and used the mill was a cutlers wheel, used for the sharpening of blades. When Joseph inherited the property he turned it into a snuff tobacco mill. The company would stay within the family and years later in 1833 the two brothers Joseph Jr & Henry Wilson saw it best to part ways, splitting the family into two separate businesses. In 1897 the mill saw a conversion to using steam power, a process that revolutionised the way snuff could be produced.
In 1982 Wilsons Of Sharrow acquired another historic company of significance, Fribourg & Treyer, saving them from obscurity. Today, the company is responsible for manufacturing some of the most popular snuffs in th UK. Classics such as Dr. Rumney’s, Singletons, SP 100 & Best SP are kept in circulation thanks to this historic company.
