Davidoff
Davidoff started in 1911 as a family run tobacconist located in Geneva. Henri Davidoff, a Russian emigrant, was the founder. His son Zino Davidoff started to concentrate on the tobacco business in 1924. Not long after World War II came to an end Zino sought to release his own line of cigars. His idea was to manufacture premium hand rolled cigars and name them after different famous French wine estates and to name the range “The Chateaux”. In 1946 the cigars launched to rave reviews. This was the start of Zino’s journey to becoming “The King of Cigars”.
After the Cuban Revolution Davidoff was approached by Cubatabaco to release a range of Cuban cigars bearing the Davidoff name. These cigars were to be rolled at the highly coveted El Laguito factory in Havana, the same factory responsible for rolling Cohiba cigars for Castro.
Davidoff would see further successes with their Mini Cigarillos and Pipe Tobaccos in the following years. It wasn’t until late in 1989 when ongoing disputes between Davidoff and Cubatabaco over quality and other business issues ended in the partnership being disbanded.
From 1991 onward Davidoff cigars would be made using the finest Dominican tobacco. In 2013 the brand released a line that incorporated Nicaraguan tobacco into a blend. This started Davidoff in a new direction, seeking out quality tobaccos from different countries to utilise in their portfolio.
