Alec Bradley – Nica Puro | Diamond Rough Cut (Single Loose Cigar)
ORIGIN: Nicaragua
Alec Bradley
The brand takes its name from the founder Alan Rubin’s two sons, Alec & Bradley. It was 1996 when Alan received proceeds from his father after the family’s Florida hardware business was sold. There had been a dream Alan had had for years, to start his own cigar brand, and it would soon become a reality.
After attending a tradeshow later that year he met a Honduran manufacturer who was happy to produce his first line of cigars. Alan would later recall that this arrangement was rather damaging as the manufacturer was not fulfilling his obligations.
Unfortunately only months after founding his new cigar company the industry boom had just ended and things were in decline. A twist of fate in 2000 would unite Alan with one Ralph Montero, an industry insider who was also struggling. After coming aboard the team there was an instant shift as the two combined forces. Their first successful line was the Occidental Reserve. According to Alan if this had not been a success it is quite possible the company would not be around today.
To make the 500 sample packs they employed the services of Henke Kelner, a well known cigar manufacturer who works with Davidoff. This paid off and the company amassed a few hundred new customers. Things only got better with the second line they released, The Trilogy and then in 2005 the Maxx. By this point the brand’s name was on the lips of New World cigar smokers across the nation.
In 2011 Alec Bradley was awarded Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar Of The Year for the Prensado. This acclimation was acknowledgment that this brand was here to make an impression and had no plans of going anywhere. By present day the brand is known globally for pushing the boat with their innovative blends such as the Black Market Range, Fine & Rare and Lineage to name but a few.
