Solani is a fairly new brand, being launched in 1998 by renowned master blender Rudiger Will. Rudiger rose to prominence as a blender for his work crafting the famous Borkum Riff line of tobaccos.
The name Solani is derived from the Latin word Solanum. This is the Latin the term for nightshade plants, the family to which tobacco belongs.
Solani has managed to gain many fans in its short time on the market, this is owed to the high quality tobacco used for these blends as well as the unique flavours of their aromatic tobaccos.
To achieve such results Rudiger sees to it that multiple flavours are extensively tested for weeks on end before coming to a decision. Each tobacco is blended and paired perfectly with the aroma that has been chosen for its complimentary synergy with said tobacco.
To date Solani has been shipped to Britain quarterly but recent changes with the importation of tobaccos from the E.U to the U.K has jeopardised its already infrequent availability in the British market.
If you have not been lucky enough to try one of these top shelf blends it’s highly recommended you take the opportunity to do so now.

I aim to bring my inexperience into a review. Initial thoughts are that I really like this one. Description says it’s a ready rubbed mix of virginia, latakia and black cavendish. No other orientals so not a true English. I smoked it straight from the tin and initially thought it felt lacking in something, but once into it, I liked that the virginia and latakia were not competing with anything else. White and Black is a good name for it. It brought tastes from different ends of the spectrum without something in the middle. It was still a cohesive blend and I feel I could fully appreciate the component parts without having to hunt for them. The latakia is not overwhelmingly smoky and this is a medium strength tobacco. It’s lovely and sweet like a honey bbq sauce and although not aromatic I want to say it was almost liquorice or aniseedy. I have enjoyed all the English blends I have tried so far and this provides something that has been a bit different and well worth it. Certainly money well spent in my opinion.
