Introduction
Few British tobacco companies have such a storied history as Ogden’s of Liverpool. Undoubtedly iconic in its heyday, this brand is still sought after by modern pipe smokers who want to partake in something that has been a staple of the British pipe smoking psyche for generations. It was in 1860 that the original founder, Thomas Ogden first set up his business in Park Lane, Liverpool.

MacBaren
In 2006 Danish manufacturers MacBaren started producing Ogden’s tobaccos on their behalf, this included Gold Block along with others such as St.Bruno & Original Flake. Customers were unphased by this transition, a good sign that MacBaren knew how to produce these blends to a high standard and replicate the originals flawlessly. In 2015 MacBaren bought the rights to Ogden’s blends and continues to manufacture them today, to the relief of many pipe smokers.
The Gold Block Standard
An immensely popular blend in the UK, Gold Block has been seen on shelves for decades and for many was their first experience with pipe tobaccos. Medium in strength and flavour intensity, Gold Block ticks all the boxes when it comes to an inoffensive aromatic.
Made from bright, white Burleys and gold Virginia tobaccos, Gold Block is an easy burning blend that is a perfect all day tobacco.
The subtle sweetness imbued by the topping is familiar, traces of caramel and vanilla intertwine with a natural sweetness that is provided by the Virginia tobacco.
The topping process has remained a trade secret since it was first launched, adding an air of intrigue to the blend.
