The classic Havana cigar brand known as Montecristo is the No.1 selling Cuban cigar worldwide. A company with more than a fair share of prestige, Montecristo has over 85 years of experience in creating fine hand made cigars.
Out of all of Montecristo’s catalogue, one cigar remains at the top of every connoisseur’s list, though many may never be fortunate enough to try one. A gran corona that goes by the name of the “Montecristo A”.
Generously proportioned, the A is 9¼ inches long and has a 47 ring gauge. The skill required to roll a cigar of this size is unparalleled, a feat accomplished by the best torcedors employed by Montecristo.
To smoke the Montecristo A in one sitting you will need upwards of 2 hours. This is a cigar that needs to be given the time to be correctly appreciated. When first lit you notice the lack of any resistance in the draw, despite its epic length.
The flavours are in line with the other cigars in Montecristo’s catalogue, medium strength and body. These notes change from woody and spicy to start out but progressively mellow into sweet notes reminiscent of sugar and hay. As you get into the last third the flavours truly develop into something exquisite.
For this Christmas season we have managed to get our hands on some individual Montecristo A’s, each packaged in a delightful varnished wooden gift box with a sliding lid. You would be hard pressed to find a present that could trump this in the eyes of a cigar fan. Limited in availability, get them while you can!
