Dunhill is a brand that needs little introduction. Perhaps the most historically prestigious brand in the tobacco industry, Dunhill made its name with the opening of its first store in 1902, Mayfair, London. Over a century of innovation and dedication to manufacturing the highest quality products saw Dunhill become the go-to brand for guaranteed satisfaction. The Heritage cigar range is no different, the name being a homage to the astute history of the company. These cigars are a triumph, bold and full of character (a representation of the company in tobacco form). Dunhill’s master blender was given the task of creating this masterpiece. As with other cigars from Dunhill, Nicaraguan and Honduran tobaccos are carefully selected from the best of the harvest.
The island of Ometepe sits within a huge body of water, Lake Nicaragua. Cutting through the sky are the twin peaks of the volcanos that fertilise this sought after farming land. With limited space, there are few who get the opportunity to use this land to farm tobacco. Those who do are rewarded with a unique leaf known as Ometepe. A smooth yet rich leaf that adds a robust flavour profile to the blend.
Citrus and oak are intertwined with a subtle freshness. The Heritage cigars use this in the construction of the cigar to great effect when being blended with another distinct leaf, the Jamastran from the south of Honduras.
This leaf is grown in a small secluded valley that is known to produce tobacco with a distinct personality. The Jamastran helps to tie together the sweeter notes of the Ometepe by interjecting with notes of coffee and spice. The third selection for the construction of the filler is specially selected leaves from Esteli, the most sacred region in Nicaragua for growing the finest tobacco. The Esteli tobacco, perhaps the most dominant tobacco in the filler, contributes to the flavour as well as adding some much needed strength to the Heritage blend.
When it comes to the wrapper leaf the master blender selected a specific Ecuadorian Habano Ligero that is visually striking. A shade of walnut brown, the wrapper is oily and consistent in its colouration. When nosing the cigar the wrapper gives off distinct vegetal and soil tones. As you smoke one of these cigars note the clean white ash and how well it holds, this is indicative of the quality of the tobacco. This is a good omen for the cigar lover.
The Dunhill Heritage is available in two sizes, the Toro & Gigante. Both are the same length, 6 inches (150mm). Where they differ is the ring gauge, the Toro sports a 50 ring gauge and the Gigante a 60 ring gauge. The difference in ring gauge results in the Gigante being twice the weight of the Toro. What this means is that whilst the Toro will keep you entertained on average for 1 hour and 15 minutes, the Gigante on the other hand will keep you occupied for well over 2 hours.
This is the last of a very limited stock and will be the last chance you have to try these historic cigars.
